Fabio Fornara

Department of Biosciences

Fabio Fornara is associate professor of Botany at the Department of Biosciences at the University of Milan. He obtained a PhD in Plant Biology from the University of Milan in 2005. He then moved to the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne, Germany, where he became interested in the mechanisms that govern seasonal flowering in plants. In 2011 he moved back to Italy to start his own lab at the University of Milan where he studies photoperiodic flowering of rice, as well as the genetics of rice adaptation to higher latitudes.
His lab implements gene editing technologies to address fundamental and applied questions in rice biology. He servesas board member of the Cellular and Molecular Biology group of the Italian Botanical Society and as member of the communication group of the Italian Society of Agricultural Genetics.
