Piero A. Bianco, from 2005 to today is full professor of Plant Pathology at the University of Milan, after having served as a researcher at the CNR (now IPSP) and in the three-year period 2015-2018 he directed the Institute of Plant Pathology of the University of Milan. He deals with virus and phytoplasma diseases of the grapevine and fruit trees. It studies the variability of pathogens in order to develop reliable diagnostic methods and to identify containment strategies based on genetic resistance to pathogens and biocontrol. He has published several articles, both in scientific and technical journals: he is the co-owner of 2 patents and promoter of a startup dealing on phytodiagnostic.
He is a member of national (SIPAV, AIPP) and international (American Society Microbiology, American Phytopathological Society) and academic (Academy of Vine and Wine) scientific societies.
