In 2006 he obtained his PhD in Biotechnological Sciences from the University of Naples. The PhD work included a 1-year stay at the Max-Planck-Institute of Plant Breeding (Cologne, Germany). His PhD Thesis work was awarded for the best Ph.D. thesis in Plant Pathology in the year 2006 by the Italian Society of Plant Pathology (SIPAV). From 2007 to 2009 he obtained two competitive postdoctoral career development fellowships from the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and the Center of Competence of the Region Campania (CRdC). In 2009 he joined the Department of Genetics at the University of Córdoba, Spain as a postdoc, where he participated in 5 European transnational projects (FP7, ERA-Net), 3 Spanish national projects (MICINN, MINECO) and 2 regional projects (Junta de Andalucía). From December 2018, he joined the Agriculture Department at the University of Naples “Federico II” (Italy) as a Senior Researcher and lecturer of the “Plant-pathogen interactions” course.
